What is eVisa UK?

UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) has developed an online portal to see the visa status via online. eVisa has replaced the Biometrics Residents Permit BRP cards system which was in place until 31st December 2024.  Having access to your eVisa UK online, you don’t need to carry physical documents or BRP card. This eVisa will be the confirmation of immigration record/status which can be seen via online at any time and from anywhere.

In the eVisa digitalized system, documents like (BRP) biometric residence permit, vignette stickers in passports and (BRC) biometric residence card will be replaced. All you need to do is carry your valid passport (which must be registered to your UKVI account) while traveling to the UK. How do I apply for eVisa?

The applicant needs a UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) account to apply for eVisa. If the applicant doesn’t have one, it can be created by ID confirmation using the UK Immigration ID Check application.

All you need is:

  • BRP Card
  • A Valid Passport with BRP number
  • Visa Application Number
  • A mobile number
  • An email

Who must apply for eVisa?

If you are not a British citizen and have indefinite leave to remain (ILR) or permanent status to stay in the UK, you need to get your eVisa UK now. For some migrants who are EU nationals with settled and pre-settled status, or on a skilled worker visa, or international students, they may already have their eVisa. They don’t need to reapply. They just need to verify their details on the UKVI website.

Do I need to create UKVI for my Child?

Yes, every individual, even the dependent child under 18, is required to create a UKVI account for eVisa. In child dependent cases, mobile number and email of the dependent can be used.

How do I use my UKVI account?

By following the instructions, once a UKVI account is created and access your eVisa. You will be able to check the details online such as, immigration status, type of permission, expiration of visa, and condition of stay.

What do BRP holders need to do?

Applicants who have a biometric residence permit BRP that expired on 31 December 2024 and have LTR (leave to remain) in the UK after this date, they don’t need to renew BRP. All the BRP issued expired on 31 December 2024. These applicants should create UKVI account. Creation of this account is simple and free. Create an account via https://www.gov.uk/get-access-evisa

Is there any deadline for eVisa?

UKVI has set the initial deadline for applying for eVisa was 31 December 2024. Expired BRPs can be used for travel until 1 June 2025, but affected individuals are encouraged to switch to an eVisa as soon as possible by creating a UKVI account.
