Tier 4 General Student Visa

The Tier 4 General Student visa category is for students to come to the UK for post - 16 education. To be granted Tier 4 General student visa, the applicant must satisfy the Immigration Rules and score points against two sets of objective criteria to achieve an overall pass mark of 40 points.

Applicants  must score points for:

  • attributes (30 points), and
  • maintenance (10 points)

If you are outside the UK, you can make an application for entry clearance as a Tier 4 General Student or a Tier 4 Child Student. If you are already in the UK, you may be able to switch or extend your stay in the UK as a Tier 4 General student.

Dependants Of Tier 4 General Students

As a Tier 4 General student, you can bring your dependant to the UK if you are:

  • sponsored by a higher education institution on a course at level 7 on the Ofqual register or above that lasts 9 months or more
  • a new government-sponsored student on a course that lasts longer than 6 months
  • a Doctorate Extension Scheme student

Tier 4 Child Student Visa UK

The Tier 4 (Child) student visa is for children aged 4 to 17 years to come to the UK for their education. Children aged 4 to 15 years only qualify if they are being educated at independent fee paying schools.
